In regard to work done on "intellectual saints" and especially St
Katherine of Alexandria, David d'Avray published an article
entitled "Katharine of Alexandria and Mass Communication in Germany: Woman
as Intellectual" in which he argues that the ideal of woman as
intellectual was among the most widely popularized images of female
excellence in later medieval Germany. The article is found in Nicole
BRIOU and David L. d'AVRAY, Modern Questions about Medieval
Sermons: Essays on Marriage, Death, History and Sanctity, Biblioteca di
Medioevo Latino 11 (Spoleto 1994).
