I've been away & come late into the discussion of apocalyptic imagery, early
representations, etc. but I've one suggestion, if no one else has mentioned
it, thus far: it's 30+ years old now, but still very useful & thorough in
ways not immediately indicated by the title:
Studien_, Bd.III, 1966. He deals with earliest representations of the
subject, both Western and Eastern, and has all sorts of useful appendices
dealing with such things as the development of the form of Satan, Christ's
wounds in Last Judgment iconography, etc. A most useful book.
