Dear Medieval-R,
This weekend in a book review (New York Times, on "The Barbarian
Conversion: From Paganism to Christianity," by Richard Fletcher) I read
a passing reference to St. Adalbert of Prague who was so humble and
pious he cleaned everyone in his household's shoes every night.
Can anyone tell me where I can find his story? I am especially
interested in his shoe-cleaning activity for a paper I am working on
that deals in part with the making, use, and cleaning of leather in the
early Middle Ages.
Thanks -
Nina Rulon-Miller
