I would like to draw your attention to the following research
opportunities in human geography at the University of Hull:
Applications are invited for the following positions in the
Department of Geography which was rated 4A in the 1996 RAE:
RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP
12 month post to work on ESRC-funded project entitled "For home
consumption: commodity chains in the household furnishings industry,"
directed by Dr. Suzanne Reimer. The post will involve assisting with
interviews with UK furniture manufacturers and designers, and
assembling qualitative and quantitative materials relevant to a cross-
national comparison of commodity chains in the UK and Canada.
Salary within the range of £15,159-£16,927; start date 1 October 1998
(or as soon as possible thereafter). Ph.D. in social science

Ph.D. STUDENTSHIPS
The Department of Geography (ESRC Mode A- and B-recognised, full and
part-time) seeks well-qualified candidates to submit applications to the
ESRC. A fully-funded studentship is also available from the Department
to conduct supervised Ph.D research in human geography. Innovative
ideas for research are welcomed. Potential research topics include
commodity chains and the production of consumption, gender and work,
local labour markets, geographies of imperialism, urban and regional
governance, sustainable cities and local environmental policy, crime, and
