Granted in M.A. there were many uses. It is not the case though
that Use of Rome was restricted to Rome. The 11th c. missal I quoted from
was from Tours, where the ordinaries were identical with thos e of Rome.
Just to take an example at random, the ordinary for Wednaesday of 2nd week
of Lent in any Sarum missal is identical with the ordinary found in a
mediaeval missal of Use of Rome. All this is explained fully in my
