IBG Annual Conference 1999, University of Leicester
WGSG half-day session
Session title:
Is the future female?
Pausing for a moment on the threshold of the millennium, let us peer into
the future. In a world of rapidly changing sites of technology, both
productive and reproductive, can we foretell what the future holds for
women, men and gender relations? This session presents current research
which highlight a range of future scenarios: real, imagined and virtual.
The session focuses on two broad themes: medias of gender - pornography,
virtual reality and cyberspace; and shifting sites of productive and
reproductive technology - terminals and test tubes. By drawing
imaginatively upon feminist theory and debate this session considers the
future of gender and the gender of the future finally addressing the
question: is the future female?
If you are interested in presenting a paper in this half day WGSG session
please submit an abstract of not more than 200 words to the session
convenors by June 26 1998. Current postgraduate students are encouraged
to participate in WGSG sessions.
