Aloha,
I am a visiting assistant professor at SUNY Geneseo, New York, and on the
job market for next year.
Research:
PhD Dissertation, University of Hawai'i: "Kalai'aina--Carving the Land:
Geography, Desire and Possession in the Hawaiian Islands". Uses
feminist-psychoanalysis and other tools to read 200 years of Western art
and literature on the Hawaiian Islands. Includes race and the construction
of identities, sacredness and power, geography and imperialism, geography
and christianity, and stuff like that there...
MA Thesis, University of Hawai'i: "Mind and Earth: A Geography of Being".
An analysis of human-environment relationships using Transpersonal
Psychology (Jung, Maslow, Grof), Buddhism, Shamanism, Taoism, Native
Hawaiian and Native American perspectives. Applies it to Urban and
Regional Planning. Great Fun.
Areas of Interest:
Psychoanalysis, constructions of gender and identity, Buddhism, third world
development, Asia and the Pacific Islands.
Another flaky Yank? You Aussies out there will be disgusted to know that I
play the dijeridu. But then, me partner's from Waggawagga.
Cheers,
Doug
