The Space Syntax Mailbase has been a little quiet lately so I will pass
along some news, musings and general things happening about the place.
1) - Let me apologise to all of you who have been the victim of 'spam' via
the mailbase. I know that the Mailbase Administrators are doing everything
possible to eliminate unsolicited spam over the mailbase and I for one hope
they succeed.
2) - I have 'cleaned' up the list and removed all of the obsolete email
addresses from the list, so if you send a message hopefully you will not be
receiving any more of those 'mail delivery failure' notices.
3) - Dr Julienne Hanson's book 'Decoding Homes and Houses' is scheduled to
be published by Cambridge University Press in November 1998. Check the CUP
website to order via the net:
http://www.cup.cam.ac.uk/scripts/websearch.asp
4) - The Space Syntax website is currently undergoing its much needed
revamp and hopefully will be available from the end of the month at:
http://www.spacesyntax.com/
This will be a very greatly expanded web site with more material covering
every aspect of space syntax research, teaching and consultancy at
University College London. To give everyone of you a 'sneak preview', I
have attached to another email a nearly full bibliography listing of UCL
space syntax publications.
5) - Space Syntax Laboratory is currently overworked, having just been
appointed to three new projects. At the moment the office is currently
working on the following projects:
Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Garden - Impact Analysis on Kensington Gardens
Regent's Place, London Phase II masterplan
Bracknell Town Centre Masterplan
Bucklesbury Office Development in the City of London with Terry Farrell and
Partners
Moor House Office Development in the City of London with Foster and Partners
In addition to this we are still doing various amounts of work and
consultation on:
World Squares for All masterplan for Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and
Parliament Square
South Bank, London masterplan
and the third stage of the Millennium Crowds Project in preparation for the
1999 New Year's Eve celebrations in Trafalgar Square and Central London is
just getting under way for its last year.
6) - Laura Vaughan gave birth on Thursday, 27 August to a baby boy named
Daniel Alexander. Congratulations to Laura can be sent to
[log in to unmask] (Please send any cash directly to me at UCL!)
7) - The organisation and planning for Space Syntax -Second International
Symposium, 29 March - 2 April 1999 in Brasilia, Brazil is well under way.
You can access information about the symposium at:
http://www.unb.br/fau/eventos/2sss.htm
8) - It appears that the deadline for paper submissions to the symposium
will have to be delayed due to the length of time it has taken to review
142 abstracts submitted to the Space Syntax International Referee
Committee. I will try to keep you posted.
I think that just about concludes the latest.
