Spatial statistics for production ecology

19 - 21 April 1999

A three days conference in Wageningen


Production ecology (PE) aims at competitive production in an environmentally
friendly way. Many studies in production ecology may benefit from spatial
statistics. Examples include interpolation of agricultural models to field or
regional scales, quantification of uncertainty in Geographical Information
Systems, and use of remote sensing for decision support. Spatial statistics
quantifies uncertainty and supports problem solving in issues of scale and
spatial modeling. The aim of this conference is to present up-to-date
develop-ments in spatial statistics for PE, to present on-going research and
to discuss important problems to be addressed in the near future.

Distinguished national and international speakers have been invited, and PhD
research students from the CT de Wit Graduate School of Production Ecology
and others will present their most recent advances.

Programme

Each day a different aspect of spatial statistics will be discussed.
19 April - Spatial statistics and Geographical Information Systems for
decision support (convenor: prof. A.K.Bregt)
20 April - Spatial statistics and agricultural modelling for production
ecology (convenors: prof. J. Goudriaan and prof. A. Stein)
21 April - Spatial statistics and remote sensing for decision support
(convenors: dr. J. Clevers and prof. S.M. de Jong)

Each day starts with a lecture on the statistical aspects of the theme. This
is followed by an invited lecture from an expert in the field. The morning
closes with 2 concise presentations by PE-researchers. After lunch, 3 more
presentations are given by PE-researchers, followed by a presentation of the
third invited lecture. The day is concluded by a plenary discussion, chaired
by the convenor of the day. Facilities for posters will be offered that can
be visited during the drinks at the end of the day.


Presentations/Speakers

There is room for presentations by researchers. Those who wish to present a
paper or a poster should provide an abstract by 1 December 1998. Notification
of acceptance is given at 1 January 1999. Deadline for inclusion of the text
in the pre-proceedings is at 1 April 1999.

Proceedings

Pre-proceedings are compiled in three volumes, one for each theme, and will
be delivered at the start of the conference. The papers presented will be
reviewed and accepted papers will be published with Alfred Stein as the Guest
Editor in a special issue of Environmental and Ecological Statistics,
Editor-in-Chief, G. P. Patil.  	

Place

The conference will take place in the 'Haak-zaal' at the Wageningen
International Conference Center (WICC), from 19 to 21 April 1999.


Fee

The fee for three-days attendance of the congress is Dfl. 250,-. One-day
registration is possible at the cost of Dfl. 95,-. Fee includes access to the
full congress program, a copy of the pre-proceedings, coffee and tea.
