Dear List Members,
I would like to draw your attention to the series of methods Day Courses in
Social Research run by the Department of Sociology at the University
of Surrey. Booking details and other information are available at:
http://www.soc.surrey.ac.uk/daycourses/dcindex.html
In particular, I will be running the course:
AN INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL SIMULATION on 14th October 1998, at the
University of Surrey.
Simulation is an important method for modelling social and economic
processes. In particular, it provides a "middle way" between the
richness of discursive theorising and rigorous but restrictive
mathematical models. This course provides an illustrated overview of
different types of computer simulation and their application to social
scientific problems. The material covered in the course will not
require technical knowledge, although a familiarity with computers
would be helpful. The course will be useful for those who are thinking
about using simulation in their research as well as those who are
interested in the potential of simulation methods.
Please forward this message to any colleagues you think might be
interested in attending and do not hesitate to contact me for further
details.
All the best,
Edmund Chattoe
