Health impact assessment and public health

Notice of a conference
The International Association for Impact Assessment is a
professional body that has long united the many fields of
impact assessment. Well-established
special interest groups include environment and social
assessment. Two years ago, in 1996, we established a health
impact group and this is now growing rapidly.
The next meeting of IAIA is in June 1999, in Glasgow.
Delegates are expected from all over the world. At the
Glasgow meeting there will be:
~ 2 day pre-conference training course on health impact
assessment, ~ health impact stream,
~ opportunity to meet a global impact assessment community.
Papers are now solicited for the health impact stream and
abstracts must be submitted by 31 December 1998.
Full details are available from
http://IAIA.ext.nodak.edu/IAIA/ (case sensitive)
or please contact Martin Birley ([log in to unmask] and web
address below) for more information.
This notice is being posted to Public Health networks. We
would like to encourage public health specialists who are
interested in health impact
assessment to make use of this opportunity to network with
the larger impact assessment community. Health impact
assessment is a multidisciplinary problem so the experience
of other specialists is very valuable. For example, the EIA
community has considerable experience of the procedural
problems that HIA is currently exploring.
You do not have to be a member of IAIA to attend the
meeting. As one of the organisers of the health stream, I
would like to encourage everyone to
submit abstracts or posters and to attend the sessions and
associated discussions.
