The Royal College of General Practitioners will be holding an exciting
conference on November 17th, 1998 covering issues around Managing
Emergencies in Primary Care. For further details of speakers please read
on.
The conference aims to:
* examine ways of reducing emergency admissions by introducing new
forms of primary and community care
* consider the appropriateness and effectiveness of models of
out-of-hours provision
* consider the lessons for primary care groups in commissioning
services
* help the primary care team understand the educational and
employment implications of emergency care
Talks and discussions will include a critical evaluation of telephone
triage, relationships with the ambulance service, the doctor patient
partnership and the patient perspective on primary care.
Topics will include:
* Models of Emergency Care
Jeremy Dale - Professor of Primary Care, School of Postgraduate
Education, Warkwick University. Professor Dale will provide an overview
of models of emergency care and MIUs, looking at their clinical and
organisational effectiveness
* NHS Direct
Dr Geoff Royston - Central Project Manager for NHS Direct - a critical
evaluation of telephone triage
* Cooperatives: How They Operate
Dr Mark E Reynolds MBE - Chairman of the National Association of GP
Cooperatives will speak about the various ways in which they operate
* Working with the Ambulance Service
Dr James Cox - speaking about relationships with the Ambulance Service
Keynote Speaker: Lesley Hallam, from the National Primary Care R&D
