I presume the place involved in Barnburgh Main, near
the villages of Barnburgh and Harlington, not far from
Wath. Grid ref. SE 475033.
It was sunk 1912-1915 by Manvers Main Collieries Ltd.
There was an earth tremor there at 6.04pm on 24 April
1942, when 18 men were at work in the district affected.
4 of them died. There was disaster in another district
of the mine on 26 June 1957, 20 men were injured and
six later died. The cause was a short circuit igniting
firedamp. Early documents etc relating to this mine
use the spelling Barnborough, no doubt this is what is
causing the confusion.
Hope this is of some help.
Russell
