the University of Sheffield, Dept of Journalism

AMCCS is the only national association for individual academics across
the fields of media, cultural and communication studies. The
association is linked to SCCCMS, the Standing Conference for Culture
and Communication & Media Studies, which provides information about
government policy in relation to research, funding and quality issues
in the sector.  The AMCCS conference aims to stimulate discussion and
provide a forum for communication between colleagues in the field on a
broad variety of issues such as:

themes of sex ‘n’ texts; tech culture; identities; policy; method;
broadcasting: plenaries including  Peter Golding and Mandy Merck: a
great variety of papers include superheroes; journalism training;
detective fiction; Radio 1: new labour; digital archives; regional
press; virtual cities: contributors include Martin Barker; Yvonne
Tasker; Jenny Kitzinger; James Donald; John Myles; Tony Wilson; Gail
Phillips; Chas Critcher; Linda Dryden and many more: forum panels on
ESRC ‘Crash’ audience research; The Radio Project ; the A.H.R.B and
the AGM to plan the future and elect the committee as AMCCS moves on.

teachers, researchers, students and practitioners in the fields of
media, film, culture and communication studies. Members and
non-members are welcome to attend.The conference fee includes
membership of AMCCS until 31.12.99  AMCCS provides an academic forum
through the annual conference.The association also has

Conference Fee :The conference fees include
all conference literature; membership of AMCCS for 1999,  lunch and
refreshments. The full conference non-residential fee includes dinner
on Friday evening. The full conference fee includes accommodation on
Friday night, dinner and breakfast. Daily fees do not include dinner
on Friday evening.

Travel to Sheffield : Sheffield is well served by rail and road. There
are regular Inter-city services from London St. Pancras ( journey time
2 and a half hours) and the main rail services to the north-east and
south-west pass through Sheffield. The M1/M18 gives road access from
the East via junction 33; from the West the A57 links to Manchester
