Here are the details of the IIS Scottish Branch meeting to discuss the
proposed merger of the Library Association and the Institute of Information
Scientists. Although this meeting is intended to serve members of the IIS
Scottish Branch, it is open to all interested information professionals.

A talk on the issues surrounding the proposed merger of the Institute of
Information Scientists and the Library Association, to be followed by an
open discussion with the IIS Scottish Branch committee and the IIS Director,
Elspeth Hyams.
The speaker
Joe Hendry is a member of both the Library Association and the Institute of
Information Scientists, and has been President of both the LA and the SLA.
He has worked in libraries in Glasgow, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Hertfordshire
and Cumbria, and is currently County Heritage Services Officer for Cumbria
County Council. Joe maintains strong links with Scotland which include his
role as External Examiner at Robert Gordon University, and personal
interests such as football, malt whisky and celtic music. A winner of
numerous awards, those which have pleased him most include Scottish Consumer
Champion 1979 and Fellowship of the University of Paisley 1991.
The venue
Chambers Bar is on the south east corner of George Square in Glasgow,
diagonally opposite Queens Street railway station and close to Buchanan bus
station. The meeting will be held in the recently refurbished function room
on the upper floor. Bar facilities will be available, and nibbles provided.
