The College of Europe is a centre of excellence for postgraduate European
studies. Located in the heart of the historic city of Bruges, it promotes
European citizenship in the real sense of the term by combining top-quality
education in European affairs with a truly multicultural concept of student
community life.
In order to maintain and further develop the outstanding level of services
provided by its academic library for almost half a century, the College is
currently seeking applications for the post of HEAD LIBRARIAN
to whom will be consigned the over-all responsibility for the library,
including:
* the development and implementation of policies for purchasing, indexing
and cataloguing;
* the management of our automated library system;
* the preparation and management of the library budget;
* task allocation and staff training;
* personal management of the library's external relations.
The candidate should have a university degree in any of the social and/or
human sciences as well as a degree in library & information sciences.
He/she should have at least five years experience at a senior level in a
similar position, preferably in an international environment. He/she should
have an excellent knowledge of IT and communication technology and also be
familiar with the European Union and its information resources. As the

staff, he/she should combine natural skills in team leadership with a sense
of enthusiasm. His/her social and communicative skills should permit an
effective external representation of the library, especially in the network
of Eurolib and European documentation centres. As the College's working
languages are French and English, only candidates with a true proficiency in
both languages need apply.
The College is offering ambitious candidates an exciting job environment and
a unique opportunity for further development. On employment, the best
candidate will receive a competitive salary, additional advantages and a
full-time appointment (following a probationary period of one year).
