EARL & UKOLN have pleasure in announcing a series of
BUILDING NEW LIBRARY CONTENT WORKSHOPS
ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS
The nature of content for the Public Library Network has now been defined in the recent LIC report 'Building the New Library Network'. EARL, the Consortium for Public Library Networking, and UKOLN, the UK Office for Library Networking have prepared a workshop which offers an opportunity to explore new ways of thinking and the effective use of networking tools which will be needed to develop electronic content and services for the New Public Library.
The workshop will be held in several venues as follows:
9 February 1999:1.00 - 4.30
University of Wales DILS, Aberystwyth
(in Association with the Welsh Library Association)
10 February 1999:1.00 - 4.30
Birmingham Central Library
17 March 1999: 12.00 - 4.30
Westminster City Archives
25 March 1999: 12.30 - 4.00
Manchester Metropolitan University
(in association with MMU School of Information and Communications)
Each workshop will open with presentations setting the context for New Library and the nature of electronic content. These will be followed by practical group work led by UKOLN looking at different approaches to exploiting networking tools to deliver content and services. Literature will be taken as the exemplar but with an emphasis on transferable lessons to other subject areas. A number of examples of good practice will be presented followed by a closing session to agree action lines.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The Content Workshop is intended for library staff who are involved on a day-to-day basis with service delivery and development, whose primary role will be to support library patrons in effective use of the New Library Network.
