APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING
David Haynes Associates and Information Management Associates have been
commissioned by the LIC and BLRIC to undertake a review of funding for
research relating to library and information services. The review arises
from the LIC's national strategy for LIS research, "Prospects: a strategy
for action".
The objectives of the review are to establish:
the amounts spent on library and information research carried out
in the UK
the sources of that funding
the recipients of that funding
an outline of the procedures which need to be followed for
accessing each funding source
The project team will also be investigating:
potential sources of funding not fully exploited
the usefulness of multi-agency and other funding mechanisms such as
small awards, a general research fund,
research bursaries and incentive systems
mechanisms for attracting private sector funding
cost-accounting systems and policies for payment of projects
overheads
variations in funding opportunities for academic, private sector
and practitioner researchers
research costs within development projects
themes of research which are being funded e.g. connectivity,
content, competencies, value and impact, economics of LIS
The LIC aims to make the results of this review available to the LIS
community as part of its strategy to encourage and support research
activity.
If you are interested in being consulted during this study, or have any
