The amount of library materials needing repair is a growing problem within
our library. Currently material which is damaged is either sent off to
be rebound or if it can be otherwise repaired library staff deal with it.
We would be interested to find out how other libraries work on repairs in
a similar situation to ours, perhaps with a view to exchanging experience
on repair techniques and methods. The sheer volume of material needing
repair and the demand for such material requires methods which are quick
and effective and it seems that training in such methods is not easy to
find. If anyone can point to any sources of training this would also be
appreciated.
We would also be interested in hearing if other libraries have written
policies on when to repair or when to replace damaged material, or what
should be done with material which is beyond repair, but irreplacable.
Thanks,
Diane Leeson
