Library Software Review
Published quarterly by Sage Periodicals Press

Library Software Review is currently soliciting manuscripts for
publication consideration. Authors who have expertise in the use of
software in the library environment are invited to submit articles
that describe and evaluate particular software applications. One of
the central goals of this publication is to serve as a resource that
libraries can turn to for analytical, authoritative reviews of
software and automation systems designed for the library environment.
As libraries consider options for the implementation of automation
systems it is important to have objective reviews written by members
of the library profession. The journal also publishes works on new
trends and emerging technologies that relate to library automation.

Possible topics for articles include:

* Overviews of large-scale library automation systems

* Detailed reviews of a single module of a large-scale automation
        systems

* Reviews of library software such as: microcomputer-based
       integrated library systems, document management systems,
       image management systems, bibliographic citation management
       systems, and CD-ROM networking systems

* Reviews of software tools for accessing and navigating the
        Internet

* Descriptions of locally-written library software or automation
       systems

* Studies of the effectiveness of online library catalogs

* Comparative reviews of software packages

* Extracting and analyzing data from a library automation system for
      library management

* The use of library standards in library automation

* Descriptions of search and retrieval protocols such as Z39.50 and
      SQL

* The implementation of client/server-based library automation
      systems

* Projections of the impact of emerging technologies on libraries

* Software to assist persons with disabilities to use
           library services and resources

* Criteria for the selection of library software

* Models for the development of an RFP for the procurement of
         library automation systems

* Cost studies for library automation projects

Library Software Review is a quarterly publication dedicated to
providing information about the use of computer software in libraries.
 Within this wide scope, the journal emphasis the practical aspects of
library computing. Library Software Review strives to appeal to
libraries of all types: academic, school, public, and special.
Readers can expect reviews of automated library systems ranging from
large-scale mainframe based systems to microcomputer based ones. In
addition to reviews of library specific software, such as integrated
library systems, LSR covers general purpose software used in library
computing and publishes works related to new technologies as it
relates to library automation.

Submissions should cover the topic thoroughly, provide in-depth
information, yet explain all terms for the non-technical audience.
Feature articles range from 4,000 to 8,000 words. Software reviews or
articles focusing on a narrow topic can be 2,000 to 4,000 words.
Please supply high-quality artwork when applicable. All contributions
should be submitted in electronic form. Follow the Chicago Manual of
Style for bibliographic citations and notes. All material submitted
will be acknowledged upon receipt. Publication decisions will be made
within sixty days.
