On the contrary, librarians in my experience have responded enthusiastically
and imaginatively to the application of computers to their profession. For
example, in recent years, librarians have been in the vanguard of developing
and using first CD-ROMs, and then the Web.
In any case, coming from a converged information service (at the University
of Birmingham) and being involved in a hybrid library project (BUILDER), the
idea of a clear "gap" between librarians and technologists looks rather old
hat.
