Yvonne Fullerton Memorial Bursary
An essay competition open to anyone employed full or part time in a UK or
European library using the LIBERTAS or INNOVATIVE systems. Who is either
currently studying at Library School, or intending to do so, or who is
engaged on any course leading to a recognised qualification in
librarianship or information science, or who is considering a career in
Library or Information work.
The winning entry will be awarded a bursary of £550.
The essay may be on any aspect of information technology in libraries.
Suggested topics are:
Use of the Internet or WWW in academic libraries
Evaluate any application of LIBERTAS or INNOPAC
Evaluate the introduction of some other IT service in your Library,
e.g. a particular CD-ROM or networked service
CD-ROMS : are they becoming yesterdays technology?
Advantages/disadvantages of networking of information sources
The advantages/disadvantages of client/server software
The effect of IT on the future of libraries
The effect of IT on the future of librarians!
Electronic publishing/the electronic library
User education for IT in libraries
However, you may write on anything involving IT in libraries, so don't be
constrained by these suggestions. Entries will be
judged on
relevance to today/topicality
depth of analysis or focus
clarity of communication
quality of presentation
Entries should be between 2000 and 3000 words in length, written in
English, and word-processed or typed. Three copies should be sent to the
Secretary of the SLS User Group, at the address given
below, to arrive by the 4th May 1998.
