Dear Ms/Mr McGarry:
We were very interested in the results of your survey on the "state" of
AV Collections in the UK, and I'm sure you found it most revealing too!
I noticed that you specified AV as in Audio-Visual rather than VISUAL
RESOURCES, and I wonder if the responses might have been more in both
quantity and details? Most of your respondents seemed to place emphasis
upon Video and methods of loan problems/access - is this the norm in
Great Britain? Especially in HE ?
You rec'd replies according to your list from 18 universities, were
these in the university library facilities or were they from ART
DEPARTMENT/Art & Design Department Libraries? You do not specify in
your summary of responses.
There is in North America (and it's truly non-partisan!) a superb
organisation that reflects the professionalism of slide
librarians/curators in Visual Resources. I am left wondering if any of
your 'respondees' have ever heard of it?
This is the Visual Resources Association and has members from many parts
of the Commonwealth as well as the US and Canada. If you would like to
know more I will send you the relevant addresses which perhaps you might
post?
Looking forward to hearing from you, or anyones comments!
Kind regards
Alec
