With regard to the earlier message concerning realPage. I work at the
British Library of Political and economic Science and we loaded realpage
software onto our network during the summer.
Initially our IT services were also hesitant as Adobe Acrobat reader had
been loaded for some time. However with increasing demands from users for
access to electronic journals, and the need to access carfax social science
titles in this format, they went ahead. initially there was some concern, as
with most other applications, about how they would react on a large network,
especially as although we have a standard desktop there is a variety of
machines on campus. They had to do some configuring and there were doubts
but in the end they had it up and running quite quickly (without much
consultation with the suppliers) as we had a deadline to get it in for the
new school standard build We are increasing promoting electronic journals
and we have found no problem with it. users tend to see so many formats with
the multiplicity of formats/interfaces in CD-ROM's available that they seem
willing to accept one more and novices have found it comparable with other
formats such as pdf.
