Some time ago I asked a few questions about other libraries provision
for personal storage.
I received 11 replies which I have summarised as follows:
Use: The majority of people are allocated lockers for personal storage.
One institution allocated on a first come first served basis,
alternatively some people preferred to keep valuables at their
workstations as long as they had a lockable drawer. With only one
exception, hanging space was provided separately.
Situation: This was difficult to summarize as it seemed to depend on the
size of building. Lockers are generally kept in staffrooms, but could
also be placed in main offices near to staff only access areas, or even
in one case within a workroom for library assistants. If the building
was large, they could be situated on a different floor, or if the
building was small, in an office at the counter.
Size and appearance: Most lockers supplied were standard plain grey
metal (as they are here at the Open University), one alternative was
wooden, and colours varied from grey to green or brown/cream.
With many thanks to everyone for their contributions, which were
greatfully received.
