Dear Int-bounders,
It depends on how wide it is!? - or at least so it seems after my
attempts in vain to calculate the lengths of three 'old' and one 'new'
international land boundary.
Consequently, I am contacting the mail list in search of help! I am
interested in finding out the common land boundary lengths of four
partitioned states:
1. British Palestine (ie Palestine-Transjordan boundary, 1921-47)
2. Germany (ie FRG-GDR, 1945/47-90)
3. Vietnam (ie N. Vietnam-S. Vietnam, 1954-76)
4. Bosnia and Hercegovina (ie Bosnia and Hercegovina Federation-Serb
Republic, 1995-)
As much as I would like to praise the value of the 'Encyclopaedia of
International Boundaries', it was not able to supply me with
historical common land boundary lengths for all partitioned states.
Elsewhere, I have consulted many and varied sources,
yet it seems that while the old boundaries remain socio-spatially
salient, they are soon forgotten academically. I would be most grateful,
however, for someone to prove me wrong....!
And for a bonus prize, what is the average length of an international
land boundary? Please contact IBRU for terms and conditions of the
competition (?!).
Many thanks for your time and consideration,
Peter
