Dear Colleagues,
The following boundary news may be of interest.
Estonia and Sweden signed a Baltic maritime boundary agreement on 2 Nov,
according to Radio Tallinn Network (1700 GMT, 2 Nov 1998). I have found no
further details--there is nothing on the Estonian or Swedish foreign
ministries' web sites. If anyone knows where the treaty text may be found,
I would welcome the information.
On 3 November, China, Russia, and North Korea signed an agreement on how to
delimit their tripoint in the Tumen River. (Associated Press, 3 Nov 1998;
Xinhua 3 Nov 1998; Itar-Tass 3 Nov 1998). China and Russia are demarcating
their boundary. The DPR of Korea and Russia delimited their territorial
sea and land boundary in a 1985 agreement, the text of which is included as
an appendix to my article in _Ocean Development and International Law_ vol.
23 (1992) pp. 50-52.
Botswana has removed a 30-km electricified fence along its border with
Namibia, from the Caprivi's Mahango Game Reserve to the Kwando River.
Botswana had erected the fence to prevent the spread of disease to its
cattle, but Namibia had objected to the fence because it killed migrating
game animals. [SAPA (Johannesburg) 5 Nov 1998]
Regards,
Dan Dzurek
