EUG 10 Strasbourg 29 March - 1 April 1999 Symposium G3
EUG website (http://eost.u-strasbg.fr/EUG)
Dear Colleague,
We would like to inform you of a particular session which will be arranged
in the EUG 10 Conference of the European Union of Geosciences during March
28 - April 1, 1999.
The Symposium G3 which we shall convene will focus on
"RATES OF LITHOSPHERIC PROCESSES:
TECTONICS TO MAGMATISM"
Convenors:
Urs Schaltegger (Zürich)< [log in to unmask]>,
A.B. Thompson (Zürich) <[log in to unmask]>,
S.M. Reddy (Perth) <[log in to unmask]>
This symposium is addressed towards scientists from different fields: e.g.
tectonics, geochronology, metamorphic and igneouspetrology, experimental
rock deformation, numerical modelling.
We wish to know more precisely the rates of processes such as solid state
deformation, diffusion, mineral reactions, melt formation and migration,
magma emplacement, subduction, exhumation, rifting, basin subsidence.
For some processes it is necessary to know the duration, for others to have
absolute time markers. The latter are based on absolute age constraints and
recent measurable deformation rates, the former can be obtained from
forward modelling.
The symposium should create an interdisciplinary forum to discuss the
problems of duration and timing of tectonic and magmatic processes in
ancient and modern orogens, and permit comparison with actual movements.
The symposium should demonstrate the importance of precise geochronology in
unravelling recent and ancient tectonic and magmatic processes.

We would be grateful for preliminary information of your interest and
possibilities of participating in the session. Unfortunately, no economic
support will be available through us to cover the expenses of the
participants.
The second circular of EUG-10 has been released on September 15, 1998. The
deadline for the submission of abstracts is November 1, 1998. For detailed
