Dear list
Please find enclosed information about a vacant research position that
we have available at Heidelberg. The position is for 2 years long and
may be used to undertake a doctorate study. Extension to a 3rd year may
be possible.
Theme: Temperature anomalies in late Variscan coal basins
Region of study: Cinera-Matallana-Sabero area of the Cantabrian
Mountain, Spain
Position: Scientific workers (Bat 11a/2) funded by the German Research
Council (DFG)
Starting: when possible before January 1st 1998
Qualifications required: Diplom or degree in a branch of earth sciences
Further details (in german):
http://www.rzuser.uni-heidelberg.de/~jr7/stelle/wa1010.html
Project supervision: Drs Helga de Wall and Laurence Warr (Heidelberg),
Prof. Heinrich Bahlburg (Muenster)
The candidate will be expected to carry out work within the framework of
two on-going programmes of research. The first is a DFG-"Buendel"
project which centres on studying the global and regional controls which
influenced basin evolution and orogenic activity in the Palaeozoic
Cantabrian Zone of Spain, and the second is a graduate research
programme, running at Heidelberg, which involves aspects of fluid-rock
interaction in the earth sciences.
This particular project will investigate the factors which influenced
the thermal development of a small pull-apart basin which was formed
along an influential Variscan strike-slip zone. The basin contains
anthracite-grade coals and appears to have experienced higher
temperatures than the underlying Palaeozoic succession. The project will
involve a combination of sedimentological and structural studies, along
with organic maturation and fluid inclusion investigations
To apply: please send your CV and a covering letter to the address below
as soon as possible.
with regards
Laurence Warr
