I must say that I agree with Roddam about Kurosawa's oeuvre. He went on
record talking about the ethereal quality of the opening scene of the Seven
Samurai with ghost-like images drifting the screen. Something which quite
excels the initial irony of the phantasm.
I must say that I have never read a single word Kurosawa wrote, but from
his works I have directly learned a great deal about the nature of all
cinema as well as of his cinema. I do not know of any other director of
whom that could be said to be a likelihood, and am thankful that he lived
and worked.
