- I'd go for it, for sure - providing it was built on a real plurality,
and some measure of preparedness-for-mutual-respect. Is that too much to
ask? There are so many stories around which seem to suggest that it is.

- I read "with" Patten some years back at the Poetry Society. Having
ignored all my pathetic attempts at dialogue (by post) beforehand, he
turned up late, insisted on reading first cos of his hayfever, and
buggered off to the bar with all "his" audience as soon as he'd finished,
where he (and they) stayed for the rest of the evening. I was more than
happy to read to ten or so of "the usual suspects" in my half - just don't
try to persuade me that it was a meaningful exchange for either of us...
