Those with access to the John Kimsella edited Australian Poetry issue of
Aunt 'Arriet's Knitting Circle Gazette (Poetry Chicago Oct/Nov 1996)
will find 4 poems in there by Anthony Lawrence. The titles give a sense
of some range, I think: "Baiting Bush Rats", "The Sapphic Stanza",
"Insects" & "Signatures". For a taste, 3 sentences from the middle of
the last-named poem:
"Over Katoomba, pigeons turn from the underside of a purple thunderhead
like a thrown collection of knives.
Against a stand of radiata pine, the cockatoo is white - its signature
is a crest-risen screech.
The need to name what we leave in the world grows wild in us."
This, of course, has not been a recommendation & was certainly not
sponsored by Kokanee Beer, but for any list-member passing this way
(Pinantan Lake, British Columbia) a. you're lost & b. there's a cold
one in the fridge for you. (To Brits - cold beer is a sign of respect
over here!)
Cheers, Pete.
