Reality Street Editions announces the publication of

SONGS FROM NAVIGATION
cris cheek & sianed jones

A unique book/audio-CD publication by poet/musician Cris Cheek and
singer/musician Sianed Jones. Their first jointly published work, it marks
an exciting development in RSE's commitment to innovative poetry, as well
as being a first in integrating written texts and sound in a new multimedia
publishing environment.
The book is an integration of sound scores, poems, new collaborative
written work and visual poems. The core theme is navigation, time zones and
travel.
The CD includes co-written songs, poems and electronic pieces, and features
a new version of Sianed Jones' piece for solo voice and amplified violin,
"The Bait".

Cris Cheek lives in North Suffolk, composes, records and performs with the
music groups Slant and Garamasala, edits Language aLive books and
co-directs (with Sianed Jones) the Sound & Language press and recorded
sound label. His performance writing has been commissioned widely, and his
writing has also featured in numerous magazines and in the anthologies The
New British Poetry, The L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E Book, Floating Capital and
Conductors of Chaos. His 1994 radio broadcast "The Music of Madagascar" won
the Sony Gold Specialist Music Programme of the Year Award. He is currently
a part-time lecturer in Performance Writing at Dartington College of Arts.

Sianed Jones is Welsh banshee "punk queen of noise". She plays distorted
funk hoe-down fiddle and has a voice to die for. Specialising in extended
vocal techniques, Sianed has worked as a composer/performer, collaborating
with choreographers, writers, film makers and performance artists. She
co-founded, tours and records with Slant.

Cris and Sianed have collaborated together since their debut at The Roxy,
Amsterdam, in 1987. Since then they have performed in San Francisco,
Vienna, Cardiff and the Royal Albert Hall, London.

Funding from London Arts Board/Eastern Arts Board gratefully acknowledged.
