Has anyone heard of the red Waggafish? It is confounding poets and artists
in Australia since news of its discovery was leaked (via a normally banal
fishing magazine about three months ago). Some say it's another name for
a species that was hooked from the Murrumbidgee River in the late 1800's.
Apparently there are drawings from the time, but I've not seen them.
The uproar is not surprising. Adamson sparked major (renewed) interest
in birds and fish; Kinsella in the dark pastoral. "Poets are not only
scatalogical." This fish is hard to track down, and it's a killer.
It's teeth are like sprung razor wire. The poems are already on the make,
I'd say. Is there an equivalent in the UK? Some living creature that
drives the green fuse? I'd like to hear about it/them. If I get any
photos
of this red beast, I'll wire them through as attachments. I wonder what
WCW would have made of a red Waggafish? In the meantime, keep your feet
out of the water.
