Fred Beake has just been visiting me to collect his email and
he considers my poetry to be rubbish, although we very much enjoy
discussing poetry together. Poetry is all to do with personal taste
and I tend to have strident views but am always prepared to view
the other side. Fred's view of it is that Peter Dale (ex-co-editor
of Agenda) is rubbish, whereas I would term Peter minor (like myself)
but Fred has some appreciation of Charles Tomlinson so I bow to him.
Perhaps it is in the area of the quality of Charles' language.
What I am saying is that everybody disagrees and it comes down to
concensus over the generations as to what endures. I would like
Lawrence to say what he sees as the positive features of Charles T.
