Fred Beake asks which French poets the American postmoderns have been
translating. He is a translator from the French himself.
And personally I should say that if a poet interests me I read every
translation of him I can get my hands on. Then the concensus produces
a picture of his work in my head. With a few hot spots which I am quite
prepared to deliberately pinch.
And the George Steiner book is `After Babel'. I have both first and
second editions. I feel a third edition is on the way. His book of
the translation of poems I have never been able to get my hands on.
Like `The White Knights of REyjavik'. Cant remember the title.
Is it `Poem to poem' or is that Burnshaw?
But Fred has asked a question.
