>>Where Rimbaud is concerned are we all talking about him in French or in
>>English translation?

>It's a shocking admission, I know, but I'm mostly interested in Rimbaud in
>English. Although (defensive position) I do take the precaution of
>squinting at the French and reading a few translations.
I thought this might spark some kind of discussion on the relative
virtues of understanding a poem in its own language, and the interesting
eruptions that occur when it is translated into English, which is
predicated on the first activity but is perhaps more the concern of poets
writing in English.
Bored? Indifferent? Asleep? Or was I being too oblique?
