Tracy - you are absolutely right. Your prompt reply
has made me suitably embarrassed. Please accept my
apologies for what was really just an an ill-considered
outburst. One of the dangers of email (in my case at least)
is that you speak before you think. Apologies to
other list members.
In the unlikely event of Andrew Motion accessing this
list, I would apologise to him also. No doubt he can
command sizeable, fee-paying audiences, which is more
than I could ever do.
The fact that many of the best writers seem to live
in poverty because of their devotion to their art
is just the way of the world I guess.
Perhaps I ought to shut up until I have something
worthwhile to say.
