Hi,
agreeing with Peter Riley about poets rarely agreeing about anything and
that not being problematic as we shouldn't be threatened by differences.
The problem comes when intransigence prevents the possibility of what
underpins such a laissez-faire:
namely 'i respect your shit, you respect my shit'. If we can get to that
position then the discussion becomes enlivened. If positions are being
refused then stultification resumes.
I get hoist on it as much as anyone. So, can we try the other option,
mutual respect? And Peter, Haydn might well have danced a fine jig to
Billie Pigg. But those who venerate Haydn might consider Pigg a tad lowbrow
- that's where the trouble comes, not with the artists as so much with
those opinion formers and canon schemers, those architects of the 'great'
and the 'good', who follow them.
love and love
