A number of our External Examiners have suggested that the
University should be encouraging staff to make better use of
the first class mark range so that the averaging system used
in our classification formula doesn't reduce the chance of
students getting a first, particularly in disciplines
traditionally reluctant to mark above about 72%.
I am aware that the British Academy is reported to be asking
for identification of "good firsts".
How have others addressed this issue, please?
