I am aware that there are quite a few enthusiastic birders in the
statistical community. I have made some enquiries about events which
could be organised around International Biometric Society in Cape Town,
13-18 December. Before I investigate further, I would like to know how
many people might be interested in:
1 Early morning bird-watching walks near the campus. (early=5.30am ish)
2 A bird watching expedition on the Wednesday. This might be a variant on
the walk up Table Mountain, or a trip to Cape Point Natural Reserve, or to
the Langebaan Lagoon. The timing of the latter would depend on the state
of the tides.
3 A day trip on Sunday 13 December: selection as in 2.
4 A two or three day trip after the conference.
I shall co-ordinate with the local organisers, and developments might be
add to the conference web-page.
I'm also open queries about other parts of SA which are good for birding.
I know that trips by the Witswaterand Bird Club could clock up 200
species in one day....
By the way, I have just booked my ticket, and had some difficulty getting
the dates I wanted. A difference of one day cost an extra 360 pounds...
Please remember to reply to me, not the list.
regards
Jane
