-----------------------------------------------------
Applications are invited for a full-time student to obtain a Ph.D.
in mathematical statistics applied to health care management.
The Ph.D. topic is the further development of a mathematical model
of cancer screening, which has been developed by the University
of Salford in conjunction with the Centre for Cancer Epidemiology,
Manchester.
It is envisaged that the model would be refined, and fitted to a
wider range of available data. Possible work also includes topics such
as sensitivity analysis of model predictions, and statistical
issues such as model choice and establishing goodness of fit of a complex
model.
It could also include feasibility studies of screening for other
forms of cancer, such as prostate cancer.
The applicant should have a good honours degree in mathematics
or statistics. The project will require mathematical/statistical
ability, and willingness to learn a programming language.
Interested students should first contact Dr Rose Baker,
Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, preferably by post or
by email to [log in to unmask], or to [log in to unmask]
