The Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England (RCHME)
has a vacancy for an External Data Exchange and Access Officer in
Salary - UKP16,000 to UKP23,000 per annum depending on
age and experience
This new post is a permanent appointment within the Inventory Record
section at the RCHME's Swindon headquarters. The Inventory Record
is responsible for maintaining, enhancing and curating the national
index of monuments, encompassing the built, buried and maritime
The flow of information to and from other record holders is a
mutually beneficial process and an important function of the NMR.
You will be required to implement exchanges of data where agreements
have already been reached and to initiate a more comprehensive
programme of data access and exchange in the future. Other duties
will include management and physical manipulation of data, and
concordance with other datasets, in line with agreed core data
The post holder must have a degree or post-graduate qualification in
a relevant discipline (such as archaeology, architectural history,
building conservation or planning) or at least two years experience
of curating and managing records in a heritage context. You should
have experience of different database software packages and an
aptitude and enthusiasm for using information technology. Good
interpersonal skills and analytical abilities will also be required.
