> At Edinburgh, we charge a Continuation Fee to research postgraduates
> who have not submitted within the normal maximum period of study (eg
> 4 years for a full-time PhD). The fee is currently stlg380 per annum,
> although it is charged on a termly basis so long as the thesis has
> not been submitted.
>
> The pattern of fees for a full-time PhD is therefore a standard
> tuition fee in each of years 1 to 3, a nominal registration fee in
> year 4, and a Continuation Fee in year 5 and beyond (assuming
> extension of study has been granted).
>
> I've been asked to find out what the practice is in other

==================================================
Dundee University charges a continuation fee of stlg40 per annum
for the first occasion of over-running of the time-limit for PhDs,
master's degrees (taught as well as research) and PG diplomas.
That is after 3 years for a full-time PhD (five years for part-time),
after 2 years for a 2-year MSc or MPhil (full-time) after 1 year for
taught MSc's or MPhil's or MBAs, likewise one-year diplomas.
We do not ask for more than stlg40 for subsequent occasions of delay
in submitting, up to the cut-off point at which submission becomes
not competent.
I hope this information is of use.
