A big question Pat!
Some worries seem to have been about the excitability of the
audiences and indeed the participants in the performances
(in small monastic communities there could be quite a bit of
overlap between the two). There were also some worries
about heresies creeping in. A lot of concern seems to have
focussed on the performance-style of the actors, which could
become tainted by secular histrionics... on this, J-C
Schmitt 'La Raison des Gestes" has a lot to say.
