Re: Paul Treanor's message
Paul,
I acknowledge your latest posting on conservatism within the Dutch
university system, and I have sympathy for some of the claims that you have
made.
Indeed, you have posted many critiques of various policy realms in this
listerv, and you have demonstrated a clear, and admirable, impatience with
injustice and institutionalised hypocrisy. But I don't find myself
agreeing with all your analyses and nor do I find them all consistent. I
have trouble, for example, reconciling your seeming advocacy of an
inclusive cultural politics with your frequent criticisms of networks, such
as this critical academic forum, that seem dedicated to this very ideal.
Since you are a frequent contributor to the forum and since you clearly
seek to provoke debate on many different issues, it would help me, and
perhaps others, if you were to spell out what your alternative
socio-political vision is. Then I think I might better understand your
frequent postings, and also the web-listed papers that you encourage us to
read.
Of course, in putting such an invitation forward I impose an equivalent
duty on myself. I suppose that my socio-political outlook is best
characterised loosely as 'eco-socialist', and I think that this has been
reflected in my writings, though others may (and have!) disagree.
