Hello everybody,
At the IICCG in Vancouver I gave a paper on 'masculinism, refereeing and
the effacement of place' and I am currently revising that paper for
publication (somewhere). Accordingly, I have been following the comments
from Joe, Pam, Steve and others regarding refereeing with great
interest. I was hoping to wait before posting this question to the list,
but it seems appropriate to do so now.
There is a great deal of refereeing 'expertise' and experience among
members of the list, and I would like to tap into some of your
expereinces, either as referees, editors, or the recipients of ('fair'
and 'unfair') referees' reports on manuscripts.
With this in mind, I would be very grateful to hear from people regarding
their experiences (both positive and negative... or maybe just plain
funny) of the refereeing process. Rather than focusing upon the problems
associated with individuals (or dare I say 'personality' clashes?)
involved in the refereeing process, I am particularly interested in what
people might see as some of the more 'structural' or 'discursive' issues
arising from or associated with the current dominant practice of 'blind'
refereeing.
Given what I suspect will be the nature of some of your responses to my
request for imformation, people may wish to contact me privately rather
than via the forum list (CAREFUL BEFORE YOU HIT THE RETURN BUTTON!). I
may be contacted privately at either of the two e-mail addresses below:

All respondents will remain anonymous if requested. All information
gathered will remain confidential to this research (that is, it will be
used solely for the purposes of publication). Respondents may request
that any information they provide be withdrawn from the research at any
time.
Thanks in advance.
