Meta 2,
In constructing our tools for translation of medical metadata to Dublin
Core syntax we are realizing
1. Global search engines currently parse the keyword meta tag using the
comma.
2. The Dublin Core syntax suggests that this element will be parsed on
the comma as well.
3. The National Library of Medicine's Medical Subject Headings frequently
use commas within a subject heading, i.e., pneumonia, viral.
Would it be possible to parse based on a semicolon?
A second major question. Will it be useful to have a registry of these
major controlled languages, i.e., Library of Congress, so that part of
the syntax and functionality of the Dublin Core will include a mapping and
verification of users' (searchers) keywords that are entered into search
fields?
This would allow users of global search engines to improve synonym
matching.
In our own search engine development we would like to use numbering systems
within the controlled language (MeSH or UMLS) that can embed hierarchical
relationships and improve the functionality of our search engine.
