Wow, I've been meaning to dive into this particular topic myself, but
haven't for fear I just don't know enough about Dublic Core yet to make a
contribution, but from what I have read, it appears that too much
information is being placed in the TYPE field, regardless of whether you
want a structuralist or minimalist apprach. Specifically, it appears
that there are two separate types of TYPE. The first is actually more
along the lines of presentation format, and the second is the actual file
format specification that should be included. Sticking strictly to
textual documents, there are a wide variety of available formats: including
ascii, html, ps, pdf, rtf, doc, etc. not to mention hard copy. In
addition there are a variety of presentation formats: such as letter,
article, abstract, thesis, monograph, etc.
It seems to me that this information should not all be lumped into a
single field.
