Hello to you all.
After lurking for the past two months, I wish to introduce myself. I am
Kathryn Taglia. Currently I am teaching courses at the University of New
Brunswick, Fredericton and am in the throes of trying to finish the final
chapters of my dissertation. My dissertation focuses on the cultural
constructions of childhood as revealed in French synodal legislation and
the writings of ecclesiastical thinkers in the later middle ages. I am
particularly interested in debates over how Christian identity is
created, maintained, and regulated. I am also interested in women and
religion.
Recently another graduate student asked if I would post the query below
to medieval-religion. If you can help her, you can send her your
responses personally or post them to the list. I will forward all
responses posted to the list.
Thank you,
Kathryn Taglia

I'm working on an online database of medieval women's monastic houses, and
am entering data collected by various researchers, and filling in whatever
blanks I have so that it will be of use to other researchers. One entry
that I think is particularly critical, and often missing from the raw data
I get, is the diocese. I've been able to look many of these up, but there
are others that I can't find. So far, I've used Chevalier's
__Topo-Bibliographie__ and Cottineau's __Topo-bibliographie des Abbayes et
Prieures.__ I've tried Ughelli's __Italia Sacra,__ vol. IV, but I have
yet to find a way to use it to get the info I want efficiently. I should
also mention that all the towns that I need dioceses for (for now) are in
& around Piedmont.
So, being fully aware that diocesan boundaries move over time, I wonder if
anyone out there could help me in one of the following ways: (1)
recommend some reference work that would allow me to look up by town to
find the diocese (preferable in the long run); (2) Provide the diocese
for any of the following towns, if you happen to know it off the top of
your head.
Thanks so much for any help that anyone can give me on this,
Marie Kelleher
